A Ministerial Chat |
From Al Jalazoon to Leverkusen-Opladen
|
On June 3rd, the Al Jalazoon Girls' School in Palestine and the Berufskolleg Opladen (vocational college) in Germany demonstrated to two ministers what school twinning means in practice: The Palestinian Minister of Education, Miss Lamis Al-Alami, and Mrs Barbara Sommer, Minister of Education in North Rhine - Westphalia, the biggest state in Germany, visited the school while the classes in Al Jalazoon and in Leverkusen-Opladen were actively communicating with each other via Internet/lo-net². The students on both sides used the chat-room to exchange ideas on hobbies, daily routines, favourite school subjects and more - thus learning/practising English and learning about daily life in a country thousands of miles away.
Mrs. Barbara Sommer joined the chat-room personally and sent greetings to Leverkusen.

Not only did the two ministers visit the school but
there were also film teams from the WDR, the state-owned Television
Company of North Rhine - Westphalia, in both schools at the same time.
They interviewed students in both schools and broadcasted a report
about the visit of the North Rhine - Westphalia government
representatives to Israel and Palestine.
Television is present on both sides of the school-chat
For all participants, students, teachers, officials, ministers,
TV-producers and more this has been a very exciting event and an
example of the Palestinian - German school twinning programme.
